Welp, it’s looking like the New York Times bombshell about Bill O’Reilly sexually harassing women all over the place and Fox News being like,”Grab those kitties, Bill” is not going over so well with O’Reilly Factor advertisers:
Given the importance of women in every aspect of our business, we don’t feel this is a good environment in which to advertise our products right now,’ Donna Boland, the manager of corporate communications for Mercedes-Benz, wrote in an email. Mercedes-Benz has spent an estimated $1.9 million in ads on ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ in the last year, according to iSpot.tv, the TV ad analytics firm.
Yes, I’d say that was a very smart move by Mercedes-Benz. However, as great as this is, it doesn’t really have an impact unless more companies do the same thing. Fox News CLEARLY thinks sexual harassment is something all of the cool networks do. Hell, they even extended O’Reilly’s contract which was set to expire this year.
In addition to the news about Mercedes telling Bill to feck off, another Fox contributor filed leveled more claims against Roger Ailes, Bill’s grabby former boss. The NYT reports Julie Roginsky, a current contributor at the network, filed a lawsuit against Ailes, Fox News and Bill Shine, the network’s co-president, claiming she faced retaliation after she told Ailes to keep his nasty hands off of her and for refusing to trash Gretchen Carlson.
It’s no secret that I hate Fox News. They are one of the absolute worst things to ever happen to America, but I cannot understand why women still work there. I mean, c’mon, this is the rapey-est workplace in America FFS and yet, every single day I turn it on (I know, super gross) and see a bunch of smiling female Foxbots. I just don’t get it. Can someone explain it to me? Maybe they’re all wearing vagina shields?
