Out of all of the ugliness that came from the right during the Obama presidency, some of the worst was directed at the president’s family. The attacks on Michelle Obama, Sasha, and Malia were vicious and incessant. Now, instead of taking the high road, some on the left have decided that turnabout is fair play and have started attacking Donald Trump’s family, including his 10-year-old son Barron — and former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton isn’t sitting still for it.
On Sunday Clinton posted this on her Facebook account:
Clinton knows a thing or two about being attacked simply for being in the president’s family. When she was a young teen she was mocked by the right and drug-addled gasbag Rush Limbaugh compared her to a dog on his short-lived television show.
Clinton’s post has gotten a lot of feedback with over 3,000 comments, the vast majority of them in support of her statement.
The old saying “two wrongs don’t make a right” is in effect. President Obama’s supporters howled when his daughters and wife were attacked. Those who oppose Trump shouldn’t stoop to that level. Children don’t have much if any of a voice in what their parents do — certainly not if they’re only 10.
We on the left believe we have the high ground over those on the right — and we do, on every issue of substance. But when we lower ourselves to their level we fuel the arguments of the “both sides are the same” people who are disgusted with politics in general.
The rule should be simple: minor children of political officials are off limits to criticism. Wives and adult children should only be criticized if and when they involve themselves in politics. Last Friday our Tangerine Tyrant was sworn in, bringing all of his baggage to the White House with him. In addition we get his adult sons,
Uday and Kusay Donald Jr. and Eric, along with adult daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner. From what we have seen so far the antics of that bunch are going to be more than enough to keep critics busy for the next four years.
Chelsea is right, let Barron be a kid, and leave him alone. If you can’t find anything to attack about the new Insane Clown Posse that just took over the government, maybe you should just start posting pictures of kittens and complaining about the weather, because politics may not be your thing.
