Donald Trump just doesn’t know when to stop. Either he has no clue when he is being extremely insulting, or just doesn’t care. Neither of these are viable options when considering the temperament required for the President of the United States.
Today at one of his rallies in Ashburn, Virginia, Donald Trump boasted about receiving a Purple Heart Medal. He did not receive it from his heroic actions in battle. Oh no, he received it from retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman who was wounded in 2007 in Iraq.
As if it wasn’t bad enough that this despicable man has been disparaging the Khan family, whose son was killed fighting in Afghanistan, Trump retells the story of receiving “his Purple Heart” saying the retired lieutenant colonel told him:
That’s my real Purple Heart. I have such confidence in you.
Rather than return the medal, Trump replied,
Man, that’s like big stuff. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.
Just when you think this guy can’t get any worse, he does. The Purple Heart is awarded to those wounded or killed in battle. Trump hasn’t done anything that requires even remotely close to the amount of bravery or courage to earn a Purple Heart, nor has he experienced the injury and loss that typically goes along with such an award.
Any decent person would have handed the medal back to Lt. Col. Dorfman. Trump slipped it in his pocket instead, because clearly he thinks he deserves it more.
While it is being reported that the medal given to Trump is actually a copy – at least from one reporter with NBC – what if it hadn’t been?
How much arrogance and entitlement must someone have to think these actions were appropriate for a candidate running for the position of Commander in Chief? Perhaps it’s fitting that a guy who conned America for so long got conned with a fake purple heart that he’s been bragging about to everyone.
