Christ, Republicans are assholes and Senator Orrin Hatch is proving that once again. On Tuesday during an interview with CNN, the spry 107-year-old senator who is still alive thanks to his government funded healthcare said:
Let’s face it, once you get them on the dole, they’ll take every dime they can. We’ve got to find some way of getting things under control or this country and your future is going to be gone.
In case you did not know (like me), the expression “on the dole” basically means someone who isn’t working and is receiving government assistance. So, this lovely man who works a job paid for by taxpayers and benefits from health insurance that taxpayers fun, is accusing those of us on Obamacare of being lazy moochers. That’s rich, isn’t it? Maybe he doesn’t understand exactly how the Affordable Care Act works?
For people who live in red states that refused to expand Medicaid because Jesus doesn’t like it when people live, the ACA is hardly a handout. Take me for example. I am an independent contractor, therefore I have to buy my insurance through the market. I qualify for a $226 subsidy, but only use $100 of it because my income fluctuates. Every month I pay $168 for my coverage and while that is pretty low, it’s hardly free and I am not a “moocher.” I have a full-time job, so clearly not someone “on the dole.” I think Orrin Hatch can feck right off and I am not the only one.
When Senator Patty Murray heard what Hatch said, she blasted him:
People who are getting access to healthcare are not on the dole. They are working families. They are, by circumstances most of us hope we don’t get into, have a very seriously ill child or spouse. This is America.
Exactly. Hatch needs to retire from the Senate and go live on that nice Senate pension he has thanks to us taxpayers.
