The NRA Is Gleefully Giddy About The Violence And Death At OSU (TWEETS)

As reports came out early in the day about the attack at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, many speculated it was a mass shooting situation. This was mostly due to the fact that the school’s emergency management team swiftly put the student body on alert via a Tweet shortly before 10 a.m.

The Tweet read:

Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College.

Since the alert was sent, we have since learned that this attack was not a mass shooting (thankfully). Nine people were injured “when a student veered his car onto the sidewalk, leaped out and stabbed several people with a butcher knife,” per the New York Times. Nearly all of the victims are in stable condition, with one listed as critical – and all are expected to survive.

The attacker was shot and killed by campus police, after he failed to comply with orders and continued to pose a risk to the community.

That shot, by law enforcement, prompted the NRA to stroke their barrels and shoot off some of the most vile tweets in response to such a tragedy.

First of all, we kind of expect our law enforcement officers to have guns. This is no big revelation.

However, if the attacker had been armed with a gun, rather than a vehicle and a knife, would the number of fatalities be listed at zero? Highly doubtful.

Law enforcement, “with guns.” Has there been some major push to remove guns from the hands of law enforcement officers that the rest of us are simply unaware of? So, of course, the trained police officer responded to the call and used his weapon to stop the attack. No need to stroke those barrels with such vigor here, NRA.

This was in response to Tim Kaine, who tweeted earlier in the day, “Deeply saddened by the senseless act of gun violence at Ohio State this morning. Praying for the injured and the entire Buckeye community.”

Yes, based upon all the reports at that time, it was said to be an “active shooter” situation. It was not known until hours later that the only shots fired were from the police officer who stopped the attacker. And, was Kaine wrong? If it had been a mass shooting would it not have been a “senseless act of gun violence?”

While the NRA would like to make everyone believe gun violence is a non-issue, the fact remains that mass shootings do occur.

That could be the lesson if you want to merely gloss over any other factual information. Perhaps this is a lesson at the same schools where they only teach creationism. For the rest of us, we will not simply ignore the fact that if students at that school were open carrying their weapons, as permitted by law in the state of Ohio (but, fortunately the campus is a gun-free zone), there could have been many more injuries and casualties from crossfire of untrained, amateur shooters.

But yeah, let’s totally ignore that aspect of this gross lust over the Second Amendment.

And, that is ONLY because this “suspected terrorist” didn’t choose a gun as his weapon.
