Bullying, abusive Donald Trump is going to make an example of any media outlets that attempt to help his alleged sexual assault victims by suing them in court for having the audacity to exercise their freedom of the press. It’s not a new plan for the orange idiot. He and his team of lawyers threaten to sue anybody who speaks ill of him and they don’t care what freedom of speech or of the press has to say about it.
Lawyers from the Trump kingdom fired the first shots in what’s going to be a hellish battle of constitutional rights versus money when they issued the following statement to the New York Times over the fact they helped two alleged victims of sexual assault by Trump tell their story:
“Your article is reckless, defamatory and constitutes libel per se. We hereby demand that you immediately cease any further publication of this article, remove it from your website and issue a full and immediate retraction and apology. Failure to do so will leave my client with no option but to purse all available actions and remedies.
The Times piece included the stories of two women who both had their own stories to tell about the time they claim Trump sexually harassed and assaulted them. CNN notes that the Trump legal team’s initial letter amounts to little more than an empty threat at this point, because it has no valid criticisms of the article or other substantive facts with which to counter its claims.
Times reporter Megan Twohey interviewed Trump by phone Tuesday night and that was when he first threatened to sue the paper if they published the women’s allegations. Twohey said Trump personally called her a “disgusting human being,” and sent her a legal letter from one of his attorneys the following day.
NYT executive editor Dean Baquet is not having any of his nonsense. “I think it is pretty evident this story falls clearly in the realm of public service journalism, and discussing issues that arose from the tape and his comments since it surfaced,” Baquet was quoted as saying.
In the Times story, one of his accusers says that Trump, who she never met before, grabbed her breasts and put his hand up her skirt while on a plane with her. The other accuser said that while she was writing a profile on his one-year wedding anniversary with Melania, he physically attacked her at his Mar-A-Lago resort.
Trump obviously is in total freakout denial mode, with every lawyer at his disposal all parroting the same responses denying the claims. His legal team also is suggesting that it’s all part of a coordinated attack by the “liberal” media to rig the election.
Facts do tend to have a liberal bias, as we all know. Since Trump’s previous threats against the NYT for running the story about his tax returns have not really gone anywhere, one wonders what he thinks he will accomplish with these other than appearing to be a child stamping his feet when he didn’t get the ice cream.
