After watching him dedicate an entire weekend to attacking one of our country’s most prominent living civil rights heroes and even canceling a visit to Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture in what appears to be an attempt to spite John Lewis, it might seem insane that Donald Trump would be stupid enough to attempt to capitalize on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. But alas, this is Donald Trump we’re talking about.
After Lewis correctly said that Trump is not a “legitimate” president, the president-elect was apparently unable to handle it in light of the recent news that he probably paid a couple Russian prostitutes to relieve themselves on a bed in front of him (and, of course, those bits about his campaign working directly with Putin’s people). Trump immediately went on the attack.
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results,” Trump tweeted Saturday. “All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad!” This was just one of the awful things he said about Lewis, who marched with Dr. King and literally bled for the rights of African-Americans. By contrast, Trump had a special code on his housing forms to warn staff that prospective tenants are black so they could be given less choice accommodations or denied outright.
But on Monday, this happened.
Celebrate Martin Luther King Day and all of the many wonderful things that he stood for. Honor him for being the great man that he was!

While Americans were stupid enough to elect Donald Trump by a minority of the vote, fortunately the rest of us aren’t imbeciles. The wrath of the internet descended on Trump, with those of us who possess the capability to think for themselves reminding him that he’s a f*cking hypocrite:

@realDonaldTrump how about John Lewis who marched with MLK?

@realDonaldTrump Honor him by respecting John Lewis's 50 year record fight for human rights.

@realDonaldTrump MLK changed the world for the better. You are his polar opposite.

. @realDonaldTrump Please keep Martin Luther King Jr.'s name out of your mouth. MLK would call you an illegitimate president too.

@realDonaldTrump This is the first tweet you have ever made about MLK. Just saying.

He would have opposed you with all his heart and soul. You stand for everything he fought against @realDonaldTrump

@realDonaldTrump I'll celebrate him by not trashing John Lewis like a craven coward.

If there is one person in America who should not ever, ever, ever mention Dr. King’s name it’s Donald Trump, a man who has repeatedly encouraged his insane followers to beat up black people at his rallies and offered to pay their legal fees. As Trump skips out on Martin Luther King Day celebrations because of “scheduling conflicts,” the rest of us remember a man who is truly an inspiration to us all.
