We knew Betsy DeVos was going to be a disaster for public schools, and it didn’t take long for everyone to get a preview of what is coming. On Sunday morning the official Department of Education Twitter account sent out the following, assumedly in honor of Black History Month:
Raise your hand if you caught the mistake. Yep. The man’s name is W.E.B. DuBois, not “DeBois.”
The Twitter mockery was swift and beautiful.

One comment and the reply to it summed up the situation we all find ourselves in these days.

Another was amazed that, despite all the activity the tweet has generated, it was still up over an hour later without being corrected.
It’s not clear whether the tweet came from DeVos or another Ed. Dept. employee. I’m leaning toward it being another employee, because at the time it was posted Betsy DeVos was probably on her knees somewhere, praying for guidance on how to destroy public education in the quickest way possible. And if it was written by someone other than DeVos, there go the hopes of everyone who thought they would be saved from the worst by career employees at the department. Because it looks like she may have brought some others among Trump’s poorly educated along for the ride.
Or maybe it was DeVos, in church, tweeting between verses of “Nearer My God-Emperor To Thee.” Either way, it’s plain the idiots are now firmly in charge. What next, new texts describing how God-Emperor Donald Trump fought the British at Bunker Hill, saved the union, abolished slavery, then helped raise the flag at Iwo Jima? Or maybe just DeVos’s memoirs, titled “Ewe Two Can Grow Up 2 Becum Secratery of Educashun.”
