Donald Trump took to Twitter on what was supposed to be a quiet Saturday morning to make a completely unfounded accusation that President Obama had wiretapped the phones in Trump Tower during the election campaign. In a series of tweets the Orange Emperor referred to the issue, which experts agree was likely invented out of whole cloth by right-wing media, as “McCarthyism” and “Nixon/Watergate.”
How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!

A few hours later South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the biggest GOP critics of Trump’s erratic behavior, held a town hall in Clemson, South Carolina. And what he had to say should have Trumpsters concerned.
There was audible laughter when Graham announced Trump’s tweets to the audience. That laughter quickly turned to boos when Graham said that if it were true that Obama had illegally wiretapped Trump it would be the biggest scandal since Watergate.
But Graham wasn’t finished. He shushed the crowd and continued his remarks.
If the former President Of The United States was able to obtain a warrant lawfully, to monitor Trump’s campaign for violating the law, that would be the biggest scandal since Watergate.
Then Graham told the crowd he was worried. By that time he seemed to have already ruled out the possibility that the Obama administration had run an illegal wiretap and was focused on the possibility that they had gotten a FISA court order to monitor Trump legally.
I would be very worried if the Obama administration was able to obtain a warrant lawfully about Trump campaign activity with foreign governments.
Then he dropped the mic, to the approval of the audience, saying,
It’s my job as a United States Senator to get to the bottom of this.
Trump may have really stepped in it with this accusation. It is obvious that his intention was to draw attention away from the continuing story about connections between his top associates and Russia. But, if Senator Graham’s comments are any indication, the God-Emperor may have managed to shine an even brighter spotlight on the potential criminality of his own administration.
