Well, it seems Donald Trump is getting just a touch too big for his britches. He has obviously forgotten that he isn’t President of the United States quite yet. Today, he decided to start barking orders regarding the detainees being held in the military prison at Guantanamo Bay.
There should be no further releases from Gitmo. These are extremely dangerous people and should not be allowed back onto the battlefield.

It didn’t take long for White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest to respond with a defiant message for Lord Cheeto, who clearly thinks he is now a king.
I would expect, at this point, additional transfers to be announced.
In a double-whammy, the Pentagon’s Press Secretary, Peter Cook, reminded everyone that President Obama is still in charge. He said at a press briefing:
We’re going to carry out the appropriate policies as set forth by the commander-in-chief with regard to Guantanamo Bay and the secretary of defense.
U.S. News & World Report stated in their article about the response:
When pressed about Trump’s stated intentions, Cook said there is only one commander-in-chief at a time.
While there is some satisfaction in seeing the current administration smackdown the overly enthusiastic newbie who just can’t wait to get his hands on the keys to the Oval Office (and the nuke codes), let’s not forget that Donald Trump has big plans for Gitmo. After saying he wants to “load it up with some bad dudes,” he also said he has no problem using the prison for American citizens as well. Of course, this would be in direct violation of an American’s constitutional rights.
A Miami Herald reporter asked Trump in August, “Would you try to get the military commissions, the trial court there, to try U.S. citizens?”
His Orangeness responded:
Well, I know that they want to try them in our regular court systems, and I don’t like that at all. I don’t like that at all. I would say they could be tried there, that would be fine.
Yeah, that’s not scary or anything.
As Trump prepares to take an oath to uphold the constitution, it becomes even more clear that he hasn’t a clue about what it truly says. While there have been reports from previous administrations committing human rights violations that go against the very nature of our most precious governing document, never have we had anyone so bold to not even attempt to hide his intentions. Our acceptance of those intentions will shape the future of our nation for decades to come.
